LESSONS
TEACHERS
Annette Kühnle (DE)
Annette hails from Heidelberg, Germany and is one of Europe’s most prominent proselytisers of blues dance as a teacher, social dancer, DJ and organiser. She is coming back to Prague after four years to help us develop our individuality and our own ability to interpret music through dance. Warning – her love of teaching and dancing is infectious!
Katka and Mikuláš Bryanovi (CZ)
Katka and Mikuláš fell in love with blues ten years ago. They gathered experiences at European blues dance camps and festivals. With others they started Prague blues dance scene and between the years of 2013 and 2017 they organised the well-known Prague Blues eXchange. Due to the expansion of their dynasty of little blues enthusiasts they paused teaching and, unfortunately, even dancing. But they miss it badly! They will be delighted to guide you through the open level lesson.
LEVELS
OPEN LEVEL
for dancers of all levels even complete beginners
BEGINNERS / INTERMEDIATE
for those who have been learning blues dance one year or less
ADVANCED
for dancers who attended at least one year of regular blues dance classes and travel to foreign blues dance festivals
MUSIC
Miss Mikey May and the Organ Grinders (IL/CZ)
Miss Mikey May is a powerful, soulful vocalist with a background in theatre, cabaret, burlesque, and social dancing. The Organ Grinders is her Hammond-organ focused Swing and Blues project, featuring some of Czech Republic’s top Jazz and Blues musicians. Their music explores (and sometimes crosses!) the outer limits of Swing and Blues music in a dancer-friendly package, and if you’ve seen them perform at dance events throughout Europe then you’ll know you’ll have a groovy great time!
MC Peter (UK)
Coming from London, UK, Peter has spent the last decade dancing the blues all over the world. He’s MC’d events in London, Milan, Paris, Berlin and New York, and his playfulness on the dance floor is matched only by his ability to fearlessly talk utter nonsense to large groups of people on a stage! On the microphone he’s as smooth as Tennessee whiskey, but his guilty secret is that he much prefers Czech beer! He can’t wait to get your mojo working as he announces the wonderful bands and happenings of Bluesin’ Prague Weekend 2023!
Dj Nathan (DE)
Nathan’s passion for music began during his university years, where he began playing at small events. After moving to Germany he made a name for himself in the local scene with his blend of blues and fusion music. His unique style caught the attention of event organizers, and he soon found himself invited to play in cities across Europe. His sets are characterized by his ability to seamlessly blend different genres and create a cohesive, soulful sound that keeps the dance floor packed.
Dj Matúš (CZ/SK)
Matus only discovered blues dance after first loving blues as a music. Being active in the 2010’s, he started to teach and organize festivals on his local Prague scene, and DJ both on the local and international events. Effectively on a dancing festivals hiatus, this event brought him back.
Jamie Marshall (GB)
British guitar player who was part of London music scene for more than 20 years. He has performed on both national and regional radio stations, played with Don McLean, Glen Hansard or British blues legend Long John Baldry. He has lived in Prague for a couple of years now. He has collaborated with Czech musicians Vlasta Redl, Slavek Janousek or Vera Martinova. But mainly, he is frontman of his own project: Jamie Marshall’s Amplified Accoustic Band.
Dj Flo (DE)
Don’t let the picture fool you. Flo can’t actually do any card tricks but he has another kind of magic up his sleeves. The kind that’ll make you want to not leave the dance floor all night! With a fondness of music and especially the Blues in all it’s styles he always has the right song to follow up and keep you dancing. He’ll probably do the same at the DJ booth if he’s not busy sharing his enthusiasm about the music. No need to Shazam; just come by and ask!
Djs Kohl & Ben (CZ)
Djs Kohl & Ben are keen hunters for vintage records at flea markets. They spin mainly vinyls full of lesser-known songs and godforsaken covers.
Dj George - Jirka Procházka (CZ)
Jirka is a music maniac, whose passion is to listen to a vast amount of music. He first encountered blues at a swing festival in Sweden in 2014 that also included a slow drag night. Blues and fusion fascinate him with their slowness, closeness, and sensuality, while also being very natural. The diversity of blues music constantly provides new opportunities for exploration. Jirka started playing at blues dance socials in Prague an year ago, and at the local blues dance community he has tested his favorite classic as well as modern blues and fusion tracks.
Martin Chik (CZ)
Martin Chik is a fixed star in the Prague blues sky! On his electric slide guitar he plays the Chicago blues of the second half of the 1950s. You can meet him in clubs and pubs of all price categories, but also in the subway or at the famous Blues Alive music festival (2014, 2015). Martin is a regular guest at local blues dance socials, as well as at international festivals in Prague and abroad. Get ready for a great show – Martin’s performance area is usually not limited to the stage!
Blues Oyster Court (CZ)
A new blues band of young talented musicians from Prague and Brno playing the music of greats such as Muddy Waters, Magic Sam, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Little Walter, Freddie King, Albert Collins and others. The band consisting of Káťa Vacková (vocals, bass guitar), Vít Beneš (vocals, electric guitar), Petr Svoboda (keyboards) and Jakub Švejnar (drums) got together to play at the summer dance camp of the Swing Wings school in Brno. They were great together and even better to dance to – no wonder, the band members themselves love to dance. And since then, dancers have invited them back again and again… In Prague, they will play in this line-up for the first time. Come and see that we could hardly have chosen a better band for the pre-party of the Bluesin‘ Prague Weekend.
Dj Greta K. (CZ/ES)
Although from the Czech Republic, Greta K.’s home scene for more than fourteen years has been Barcelona, where she started dancing lindy hop, blues and regularly DJing at local parties and festivals. This was followed by fusion dance and DJing at parties and festivals all over Europe. Greta K. is in her element when she can dance, listen and play music. One of the things she enjoys most is discovering new musical gems to share with her dancers. She likes to combine an energetic style of music with a slower and more sensual style, depending on how she feels about the atmosphere at the dance floor. So friends, don’t wait and get dancing!
